More Walleye With A Stinger Hook

Walleye will often nip at a jig or lure with a minnow on it without really taking the prized bite for you to land them. This has always been a difficulty with walleye because they often mouth the bait rather than making a hard bite on your bait.

I have over the last number of years made my own stinger hooks with a regular single lined nelled hook. I tie the snelled hook onto the curved portion of the jig so that I can hook the tail portion of the minnow or just let it freely dangle off your jig or lure. By using a stinger hook you will certainly have a better chance of setting the hook on that monster walleye.

TIP: To ensure that you don’t have issues with the stinger hook tangling up, make sure that the snelled hook is a heavier pound test line so it limits twisting.

TIP: Cut the snelled hook long enough and tie up a hangman’s knot so that you can remove this stinger hook if you change up your tackle

This is a tricky thing since your not really using a long piece of mono-filament line but it will work wonders once you get the hang of it.

Using a stinger hook will increase your chances of landing a monster walleye so try it out and land some big ones.
