Take On Walleye in Stealth Mode
When your out on a Northern Ontario lake remember that the sound of your outboard or the humm of an electric motor or the clunk of the anchor of an anchor can really limit the walleye catch for the day, especially when your close to shore.
If you have known good spot where lunker walleye are found try this…
Move upwind and have your anchor ready. Drop your anchor about 50 feet upwind from that spot where you know there might be a few fish. Let out anchor line so you begin to move towards this spot. Let your boat float towards this spot and then cast your favourite lure into that hotspot. Continue in this fashion until you are sure you won’t have any chance of catching anything and move onto another spot.
If you need to get a depth reading, just drop your fishfinder and get a depth reading. When you’ve taken your reading pull in rope from your anchor moving away from the hotspot but still within casting rage.
Remember, a rock tied off to a rope might not be the best anchor to use. You will be pulling on your anchor line often enough and you need a good one that will hold on the bottom of the lake.
This is a great technique so try it out and have fun.
