Walleye fishing in Northern Ontario
It’s Thursday night and I’m getting ready to head out east of Sault Ste Marie for the opening of walleye fishing this weekend. The may long weekend is always a great time to start some springtime fishing fun.
We’re gonna be packing pretty light and staying at Tunnel Lake Trading Post with the expectation of fishing Aubrey Lake and Pig Pen Chutes on the Missisaugi River.
With the thought of walleye in the frying pan were packing light, fishing hard and will ultimately start the Northern Ontario spring fishing season with eager enthusiasm.
OK, well I’m late writing the balance of this because the weekend ended up being a pretty shitting weekend of fishing. We stayed 2 nights at Tunnel Lake which was all fine and dandy but the weather was absolutely horrible. May long weekend has always been a weekend of “hope”! Hope for good fishing, hope for good weather, hope that the weekend turns out to be a good one all around.
The whole goal was to catch some big monster walleye and have some shore lunches, but we ended up catching only smallmouth bass which as everyone knows are out of season in May.
The weather was terrible, cold, windy, some snow, rain and not very much sun.
We ultimately have decided that since the last 3 years have been horrible for fishing so I think any future May long weekend trips will ultimately turn out to be a long weekend in June instead.
I’m sure others have had these type of weekends so if you want to share some comments please leave them below…
